Oral Conscious Dental Sedation
If you could take a pill that would make all of your dental nerves go away, would you do it? If so, then you’ll be pleased to know that this is actually how oral conscious sedation works! We’ll prescribe you a medication to take at home on the day of your appointment. By the time you reach our dental office and sit in the chair, you’ll already be deeply relaxed, and the visit should seemingly fly by in a matter of minutes.
Nitrous Oxide Dental Sedation
Nitrous oxide sedation is so gentle and reliable that it has been used for over 100 years to calm anxious dental patients, including very young children. Within minutes of breathing in the odorless gas, a patient begins to feel lighter, warmer, and calmer from head to toe. The mask stays on for the entire appointment, and once it’s removed, the patient will be back to normal within a few minutes.
IV Dental Sedation
With IV sedation, medication is administered directly into the bloodstream via an injection in the hand or arm. Because of this, it is extremely fast-acting. Once a patient is fully sedated, we can adjust their level depending on how comfortable they are. We normally recommend this approach for patients with extreme dental phobia or those who need to undergo a more involved procedure.
