How To Safely Remove Your ClearCorrect Aligners

In order for your ClearCorrect aligners to work properly, they must have a secure fit. This allows them to move your teeth precisely in the right direction for a successful treatment. Unfortunately, however, it can also make removing them for meals, cleansing, and swap-outs a little difficult. If you’re struggling to take your aligners out, these tips and tricks may help!

Move Them from The Back

It’s easier to remove your aligners from the back than it is to attempt it from the front. To do this, position your fingertip on the inside of your back molar, gently pulling the aligner away from the teeth. Do this on both sides, working towards the front of the mouth until the aligner comes out.

Wait a Moment After Drinking

If you just had a cold drink, your aligner could become stiffer than it would be in your otherwise warm mouth. Thus, allow your aligner a moment to warm back up before attempting to remove it. It will be more pliable when it’s warm. Conversely, do not drink hot beverages with your aligners in, or attempt to warm them with heat, as this can cause them to warp, risking your treatment.

Use Your Tools

If you need help getting a good grip on your aligners, try using a paper towel, rubber gloves, or a rubber jar opener to help you get some traction on them. Another handy tool you may want to invest in is an aligner remover tool, which is specifically designed to help you remove your aligners. If you do, be sure to speak to your dentist about how to use these properly so you don’t accidentally injure your teeth or gums.

Keep it Short

Long nails may look nice, but when it comes to clear aligners, they’re not very practical. Keeping them short and sweet during treatment can help you get a better grip as well as prevent them from breaking or injuring your gums.

Keep Calm & Carry On

If you’re struggling a bit to remove your aligners, keep calm. Allow yourself a few minutes to remove them each time so you don’t feel rushed or panicked. They will come out eventually, but trying to remove them when you are feeling frustrated or stressed can increase your risk of accidentally damaging them.

Remember, your aligners need to fit tightly to work effectively, but that doesn’t mean they won’t come out. Learning how to remove them takes a bit of a learning curve, however once you get the hang of it, you’ll be able to do so with ease.
